The Insolvency Service is working on a project that will reduce the regulatory and administrative burdens that exist for users of insolvency legislation. This page provides links to updates on project information. 

The Enterprise Act 2002 received Royal Assent on 7 November 2002. The Act contains provisions to modernise insolvency law in the areas of both company and individual insolvency. This page contains information and reports relating the the Act.

  • Debt Relief Orders

    Proposals to provide debt relief for people in England & Wales who owe relatively little, have no income and no assets to repay what they owe and cannot afford to make themselves bankrupt

The Insolvency Rules Committee is appointed under section 413 of the Insolvency Act 1986 for the purpose of being consulted by the Lord Chancellor before making any rules under section 411 (company insolvency rules) or section 412 (individual insolvency rules) of the Act. The committee consists of members of the legal and accountancy professions.
